| Safety Rules |
 1. It is the policy of the Llantrisant Aeromodelling Club that the
B.M.F.A. guidelines are adopted in all matters related to model flying on
Llantrisant Common. All members are therefore obliged to read the
B.M.F.A. handbook and abide by the rules therein.
2. Airframe, Controls, Propeller and Radio Equipment should be checked
before each flight.
3. On arrival at the flying site, compliance should be made with the
Frequency Control system as operated by the Club. Transmitters
should carry an orange marker with the relevant frequency number
clearly visible. Pilots should also have a ground marker carrying the
same frequency number and also the Pilots name. This is to be placed
in the designated area only when the frequency is clear.
Transmitters must not be switched on until the frequency is clear.
4. Effective silencing is required to the D.O.E. standard.
5. Take off and Landing should be carried out into wind at all times. The
runway will be set up with this in mind.
6. Flying through, or in the direct line of the Sun should be avoided.
7. The “pits” area should be set back approximately 30 metres from the
centre line of the “runway”.
8. Models in the “pits” area should be set up with their noses pointing to
the “runway”.
9. Mobile phones should be switched off at all times whilst on the
Common.
10. Models requiring prolonged engine runs should be removed
from the pit area. If the radio equipment needs to be operated then
compliance with the frequency control system is necessary.
11. Pilots should stand in close proximity to each other and not on
the “runway” unless taking off or retrieving a model.
12. A call of “LANDING” should be made prior to carrying out such
a manoeuvre. If the engine has cut then a call of
“DEADSTICK” should be used.
13. Overflying of the road and car parking area is to be avoided, together
with close proximity to animals and people.
14. Check models after every flight.
15. Members wishing to operate Free Flight or Control Line models should
refer to the Liason Officer for the relevant code of practice.
16. Radio equipment with built in Failsafe facilities should have this
function programmed so that in the event of a radio malfunction the
engine goes to the OFF' position.
17. Transmitters should not be operated on adjacent frequencies unless
the B.M.F.A. procedure for safe operation has been carried out. See
Handbook page 14.
18. When the direction of take off is towards the “mound”, then a lookout
must be posted at the “mound” for the duration of flying. The
procedure has been advised by the B.M.F.A. Safety Officer due to the
lack of visibility below the level of the “mound”. This procedure should
also apply when landing if the “mound” is to be overflown.
19. These rules are based on the SAFETY CODE FOR FIXED WING AND
HELICOPTERS prepared by the BMFA and should be read in
conjunction with that code. Safety is the responsibility of every club
member. Members should ask for assistance rather than hope for the
best :- model aircraft can be dangerous and are almost always
intolerant of poor maintenance, set-up and flying. You must intervene
if another club member is flying in a manner which could result in a
breach of the club rules, noise code or safety code. Better this than risk
injury and/or the loss of the club site

It cannot be stressed enough that a model helicopter must have a higher degree of safety built into it than any other flying model
If any member who disregards the club rules or the underlying BMFA safety code or by other actions puts the safety of the club members or reputation of the club at risk or ceases to by a paid up member of the BMFA then club membership will be cancelled and the balance of the membership fee forfeited.

The flight line must remain CLEAR at all times .
All members are to use this rule when busy Heli,s 20 minutes then Planes 20 minutes Maximum 5 at a time ,but that will still not allow hovering on the flightline whilst others are flying what ever type they fly .flightline must remain CLEAR at all times .
Hovering a helicopter on the flight line is the Issue when other pilots are flying It is off putting and also falls into the same rule that prolonged engine running of any IC model in the Pitts is not acceptable as you can not here your engine running whilst flying.
All club members are considered to be Safety Officers.and are required to demonstrate exemplary Safety standards at all times WHERE EVER THEY ARE FLYING Only competent pilots are allowed to fly on the main flight lines. Definition of competent is a pilot who has successfully passed his or her "A" test or a pilot who is considered safe to fly solo
The hovering circle is for set up and beginners (learners) when the main flight line is in use this does not meen that you have to go in there everytime you fly only if the flight line is being used by a competent pilot with helicopter or plane ,if the competent pilot does not mind you hovering there ,then that is fine.
No aircraft is to be flown behind the line of the runway. The area between the runway and the pits area and hovering circle is classed as a dead air zone; quite simply this means that no aircraft is to be flown within this area. Only in extreme wind conditions will aircraft be allowed to enter the dead air zone, but under no circumstances will any aircraft be allowed to fly over the pits areas
The above rules are intended to provide a safe environment in which all members, their families, friends and visitors can enjoy when they visit our Flying Site. Please fly safely at all times and enjoy our hobby with the minimum of risk. Any member wishing to report any breaches of safety should contact the Club Secretary, Safety Officer via any medium available. All reports will be investigated fully.
The committee reserves the right to refuse applications for membership and in exceptional circumstance can exclude members. Subs are non-refundable.
All members are expected to follow these rules alongside the BMFA Guidelines.
Any New Member will have to meet a member of the Commitee before joining the Club to dicuss the Club Rules .
Nobody without BMFA insurance is allowed to fly on the flying site
anybody letting someone fly with full knowledge that the person has not got insurance then club membership will be cancelled and the balance of the membership fee forfeited.llantrisant & district areomodeling club does not accept any liability for any injury, loss or damage incurred by any club member or any persons |
